Detailed
Most disc brake systems are hydraulically controlled rather than mechanically operated, as the rider can use less braking force to accommodate the high-pressure, low-level movement required by the brake calipers. The hydraulic system is based on the principle that the liquid is incompressible, and uses hydraulic hoses to export a specially configured oil to push the caliper pistons, thereby squeezing the brake pads onto the rotating disc. The three main parts of this type of disc brake – brake pads, discs and calipers – determine the strength and efficiency of the motorcycle brakes.
